For eight years now, Ontario Street and Wesley-Willis, along with 3 other area churches, have been involved in growing a crop and giving the proceeds to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. Last year, we had 49 acres of soybeans on the farm of Andrew and Shelly Kaastra, In spite of dry weather and pests, we harvested 45 tonnes of beans. The net proceeds from the beans, combined with church donations, will amount to about $19,000. This, as usual, will be matched 4 to 1 by CIDA resulting in $95,000 of food aid which will go to Indonesia, Pakistan and other needy areas. To continue this project we are looking for land to rent for the Clinton and Area Foodgrains Growing Project 2006. We need 40-50 acres, will pay close to approximate fair market value. The committee is also seeking an administrative coordinator.
